Recover Out Loud

The truth about sobriety — the good, the hard, and the hilarious.

Hi, I’m Bryan (AKA – Buster McFly) — and I’ve been sober since the days when phones had cords, cars had ashtrays, and nobody knew what “gluten‑free” meant.

I’ve been sober for 37 years, and in that time I’ve learned a few things: sobriety is beautiful, brutal, hilarious, confusing, life‑changing, and occasionally boring. Sometimes all in the same afternoon.

I got sober young, stayed sober long, and somewhere along the way I picked up a deep love for straight talk, the Twelve Steps, and the strange, wonderful history of old‑school AA. I’m not here to preach or pretend I’ve got it all figured out. I’m here to tell the truth — the good, the hard, and the hilarious.

This site, The McFly House, is where I share:

  • stories from my own long road in recovery
  • honest reflections on the Steps
  • bits of AA history that shaped the fellowship
  • the things I wish someone had told me
  • the things I learned the hard way
  • and the humor that kept me going when nothing else did

I’m not a guru, a therapist, or a sobriety influencer. I’m just a guy who’s been around the rooms long enough to have some stories, some scars, and a perspective that only time can give.

If you’re sober, sober‑curious, struggling, thriving, or just trying to make sense of life without numbing it — you’re welcome here. Pull up a chair. Stay awhile. Laugh with me. Learn with me. Disagree with me. That’s all part of the deal.

This is real sobriety, lived out loud.
